The big push for CO2 action

Ann McKechin MP and Scottish Labour climate campaigners

Ann McKechin MP holds the banner for Glasgow North on Scotland's biggest ever climate change demo.

Following the historic march which is being held before the Copenhagen Climate Change summit, Ann McKechin MP said:

"I was proud to join thousands of campaigners, Iain Gray MSP and local MSP Pauline McNeill for Scotland’s biggest ever climate change demo.

"I believe that we need to rapidly reduce greenhouse gas emissions to limit global temperature increase to no more than 2°C.

"I will keep pushing for a global deal to limit emissions that is:
Ambitious – limits climate change to 2 degrees
Effective – keeps all countries to their word, and
Fair – supports the poorest countries to adapt to climate change."

Scientists have worked out the maths: emissions MUST peak and start to decline in the next 10 years, and by 2050 they must be 50% less than they were in 1990.

Ann added:

"I have signed up to the 10:10 emissions pledge — I hope you can too."
