Pupils, players and politicians team up during anti-racism fortnight
Friday, 19 December 2008 11:30

Ann McKechin MP and Scottish Parliamentary colleage Patricia Ferguson MSP have teamed up with Summerston pupils from John Paul Academy and players from Partick Thistle FC to support a fortnight of action by anti-racism campaigners.

Ann and Patricia who represent the city’s Glasgow North and Maryhill communities are giving their backing to the two-week long campaign launched by Scotland’s Show Racism the Red Card campaign.

Commenting on the effort, Ann said:

“The great work of the Red Card campaign is an essential element to tackling racism on and off the football field. Young people often look up to the players and their clubs, that’s why we need the message to be loud and clear: everyone must unite to end racism.”

The pair joined with PTFC's 19 year old midfielder Pedram Ardalany and 21 year old defender Paul Paton and the school football teams from John Paul Academy in Summerston to highlight this campaign.

Ann added:

“I’m proud to give my backing to the effort made by local schools and clubs in my constituency and hope we can use this important fortnight to help Glasgow build a generation of kids determined to score for equality and stand up against racism everywhere.

“It’s so good to see young people supporting the campaign. We can achieve so much more together as a community.”

The Fortnight of Action encourages participation from all sections of Scotland's communities to celebrate diversity and tackle racism.
