Ann McKechin MP and the Principal of the University of Glasgow

Ann joined professor Barry Gusterson for a tour of the facilities being completed at the New Beatson Translational Research Centre (TRC) based on Switchback Road.

The completion of the Beatson TRC will deliver a crucial element of Scotland’s strategic plan to tackle cancer.  The centre will be the city of Glasgow’s final link in this plan to bridge the gap between the scientists working in the cancer labs and the patients in the clinic.

Translational Research forms the bridge between the bench cancer research scientists in the lab and the hands-on clinician in the hospital.

Ann said:

"I was delighted to come along and review the excellent progress being made in deveolping these new facilities. The generousity which is helping to fund this state-of-the-art facility by members of the general public in Glasgow is testament to the charitable name of our caring city.

" I would like to personally thank all those who have given money in the Pebble appeal in my constituency and by Evening Times readers across Glasgow.  Real lives will be saved by the pioneering work this centre will facilitate."

The fundraising campaign has been given much support from the Evening Times in the effort to raise £10 million to help fund the centre.
