I know that many people will be deeply upset and appalled by the continuing crisis in Gaza and the loss of life over the last few days. As someone who has previously visited Gaza and contributed to a number of parliamentary reports on the area, I share these concerns and join with the Prime Minister in calling for an immediate ceasefire to prevent further loss of innocent life. The level of casualities is unacceptable - only peaceful means can achieve a long term solution to the troubles which have long afflicted this region. Further violence only puts back the hope of peace.
