The kids of Dunard Street Primary School near Queen's Cross yesterday held an 'Africa Day', bringing together a week long Global Citizenship project. The pupils have spent the week learning about water use in Uganda and Malawi and how fair trade can help other young Global Citizens across the world. Ann joined the pupils to find out more about the 'Global Citizenship Week' organized by teachers which ran from Monday 27 April to Friday 1 May. Primary 7 pupils showed Ann their Fair Trade Cafe, while P2 youngsters gave a presentation to a special assembly highlighting what they’ve been doing to become good global citizens. Marion Scott, Head Teacher of Dunard Street Primary School said: "It was a pleasure to welcome Ann to Dunard Street today to see the culmination of a week of project work by all the pupils and teachers involved. The Global Citizenship project has been fun and we've covered a lot of topics with the children. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all our Global Citizens for their efforts."
Ann said: "I was delighted to join pupils and staff for Africa Day at Dunard Primary. Today's kids are going to be part of a world which is coming ever closer together with globalization. It's really important that the children get the chance to explore international issues such as fair trade. "Fair trade is needed now more than ever and we all have the power to create positive change for people and planet. It is very heartening to hear the children at Dunard making a special effort help spread this important message."
