The UK Youth Parliament, established in 1999, has recently been seeking the chance to use the House of Commons debating chamber in the Palace of Westminster. Ann has supported the motion to allow the 'MYPs' the opportunity of meeting in Parliament - and has criticized the the stuffy reaction and childish opposition which the young people faced getting the chance to debate in the Commons. Kate Parish, the UKYP's Head of Programmes, wrote to Ann thanking her for supporting the motion on 17 March. In her letter to Ann, Kate Parish said: "Even though young people under the age of 18 do not have a vote, their views are just as valid as someone over 18 and they can, given the opportunity make a difference locally, regionally and nationally.
Ann said: "I think it's very important that our Parliaments make themselves open and accessible to the people, and young people mustn't be shut out. The Youth Parliament project gives our kids and young people important experience of being involved in a Parliamentary democracy."
