Ann McKechin MP has been invited to take nominations for the Tiffin Cup this year.
The Tiffin Cup is a UK-wide competition to find the best curry house in Britain. Each constituency gets to nominate one great South Asian restaurant based in the local community. Then our nominee get the chance to compete in the final held in London. Ann is inviting residents to send in nominations by Friday 23rd of July.
Speaking about the Tiffin Cup and Glasgow North's nomination, Ann said: "The Tiffin Cup is a national contest between constituencies to recognise the best South Asian establishment in the UK.
"I am pleased to be taking nominations from local people on the best curry house in our constituency, as we have some excellent local contenders." "Please send in nominations for Glasgow North online at www.annmckechinmp.net/tiffin-cup"
Following the success of the Tiffin Cup 2009, the competition is now into its 5th year and MPs have once again been asked to nominate a restaurant in their constituency to compete to be named the best South Asian restaurant in Britain. Last year fifty eight restaurants were nominated from around the country and this time it is hoped to build upon the popularity of this mouth-watering competition, encouraging the participation of as many constituencies as possible, further celebrating the diversity of British culture and recognising the importance of South Asian cuisine. The Tiffin Cup is awarded every year by the Tiffin Club of MPs, which was formed in 2006 its co-chair are Michael Fabricant MP (Conservative), Martin Harwood MP (Liberal Democrat), and Rt. Hon. Keith Vaz MP (Labour). The aim is to not only applaud the quality of South Asian food in Britain but also raise much needed money for charity. This year the competition is in aid of the charity ‘World Vision’. The MPs said, “After the overwhelming success of last year’s competition we are looking forward to another chance to sample some of the best offerings of South Asian food in Britain. At the same time we also hope to encourage some healthy competition amongst MPs from all parties, all while raising money for a worthy charity.”
