It was a great relief to hear today that Glasgow University's Court has backed away from threatening compulsory redundancies on a number of Departments incluing Life Sciences and Education.
I met with staff during the General Election campaign when the threat had emerged to give my support to their campaign. Last month following a substantial number of representations from staff living in the constituency, I met with the University's Principal and staff union representatives. I am pleased to see that a constructive dialogue between senior management and the affected Departments over the last few weeks has averted compulsory job losses - this is one piece of good news in what otherwise has been a very bleak week for our public services.
