Ann McKechin MP claims victory in campaign to save Kelvindale Post Office
Thursday, 10 January 2008 15:40
Ann McKechin MP for Glasgow North today claimed victory in her campaign to keep Kelvindale Branch Post office open for business.

The decision to save Kelvindale Post Office follows a massive petition campaign run by Ann McKechin MP, which was signed by over 4,000 Glasgow North residents.

Commenting jointly on the announcement following the recent public consultation, Ann McKechin MP said:

“My campaign to save Kelvindale post office is today claiming a local victory for common sense.  We are pleased that Royal Mail have listened to our representations regarding the original closure proposal and have recognised the overwhelming reaction of our local communities shown in the large numbers who supported our petition in calling for an adequate post office network to be preserved in the area.
"We appreciate difficult decisions have to be made to maintain a sustainable national network but we believe that today’s news makes sense for residents in Kelvindale”
  • Ann McKechin MP has been running a hard fought local campaign against Royal Mail's proposed closures programme.
  • Ann's offical submission to Royal Mail to outline the community ned for these facilities was pivotal in the decision to keep Kelvindale Post Office open for business
  • With the help of a broad base of community activists Ann collected over 4,000 signatures for a local petition against the original proposals, at the time of her official submission to the consultation programme run by Post Office Limited.
