Ann welcomes Government decision on Post Office Card Account
Friday, 19 December 2008 11:36

I am delighted with today’s announcement by the Government that the Post Office is to retain the £1 billion contract to distribute benefits to 4.3m claimants through the Post Office Card Account.

This is great news for the Post Office. It shows the Government is committed to developing a modern postal service delivering a wide range of services to the community. The announcement is good news for the Post Office as the card account is an important source of income and brings customers through the doors of post offices.

Many constituents have contacted me over recent months on this issue and I’ve raised their concerns with the relevant authorities. I am pleased that the Government has listened to and now acted on our concerns.

I listen to constituents and get on with the job of making sure that the views of constituents are known by those making important decsions. Others unfortunately seem more interested in scaremongering and irresponsibly frightening vulnerable people in our communities.

The future of the Post Office is a serious matter. It shouldn’t be about cheap party political point-scoring. It should be about getting on with the job of finding ways of developing the best post office services for communities. That's what I'm interested in achieving for the people of Glasgow North.
